Successful EAs, TAs, and PAs possess excellent organisational abilities, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively. This is a role which often handles last minute changes, such as meetings being moved in the diary at short notice. They should be proficient in office software (such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace), possess exceptional problem-solving skills, and be adept at maintaining confidentiality and discretion. They must also be able to build relationships with different stakeholder groups, for example other Executive Assistants, suppliers and clients.
Previous experience in EA, TA, PA or administrative roles will be most beneficial, however it is possible to pivot from other careers. Some roles may require prior experience supporting senior management or teams, and may require specific skills such as language capabilities or experience supporting a particular type of team (for example, a deal team within financial services). Demonstrable skills in time management, prioritisation, and adaptability are key factors considered by employers.
